Chao Ban: Visual Identity

Chao Ban visual identity — signage

A visual identity for a Vietnamese restaurant in the Michelin Guide.

The owner is French-Vietnamese and wanted something anchored in modernity rather than in the usual signals. Somewhere that reads as trustworthy and welcoming before you have ordered anything. The logotype draws on Vietnamese lacquerware and folk woodblock printing, with strokes that echo brushwork without imitating it. Deep lacquer red, near-black, aged gold.

Made in 2020, and the restaurant has moved on since.

The identity ran across menus, cards, signage and packaging. Things have evolved on their side in the years since, which is how it goes with a restaurant that is doing well.
